Lloyds Environmental
take control of high-profile clean-up operations
24th June 2005
Over the last few months, Lloyds Environmental Waste Management
has taken control of some extremely high-profile spills right
throughout the United Kingdom. These include an extensive
petrol and diesel spillage on the M25, flood remediation
work in Carlisle and a large dairy spill at a factory in East Sussex.
M25 tanker spill
In November 2004, a fatal accident that resulted in an unprecedented
closure of an 11-mile stretch of the M25 and an extensive petrol
and diesel spillage was brought under control with the help of
experts and specialist equipment from Lloyds Environmental Waste
Management Ltd. In total, the work involved the removal of 100
tonnes of contaminated soil and several thousand gallons of contaminated
water. Lloyds Environmental Managing Director Paul Segal said:
“This was a tragic accident which resulted in some of
the worst traffic congestion ever seen on the M25. The
nature of the incident meant there was a real risk of explosion
and made the task of removing the spillage extremely challenging. Working
with the Highways Agency, Environment Agency, Fire Brigade and
Police we had a number of people on site as well as a range of
decontamination units.”
Flood remediation in Carlisle
Following the organisation’s experience
during the Lewes floods in 2000, Lloyds Environmental provided
an emergency response to the flooding in Carlisle in January
of 2005. Experienced crews carried out tankering, de-sludging,
high-pressure water jetting and chemical clearance on commercial
premises affected by the floods.
Dairy spill in East Sussex
In February 2005, Lloyds were also called out to an emergency
operation after Arla Foods reported that 21,000 litres of cream
had been spilled at a dairy near East Grinstead in East Sussex.
Although the dairy acted quickly to contain the spill, there
were concerns that some of the cream could end up at Newick waste
water treatment works via the sewerage system, potentially affecting
drinking water and damaging fish and water life. Thanks to the
fast response of Lloyds Environmental, a potential pollution
incident was averted with no risk to the environment.
Lloyds Environmental operate a dedicated response
service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and can be contacted
on 01273 401888.
