2012 London Olympics Clean-Up Begins
March 2006
Since last year’s announcement that London had
been awarded the 2012 bid to host the Olympics, the whole
of the Eastern London city has been subject to much re-generation
planning and activity.
The planned Olympic Park in East London, lies
at the heart of London's plans for the 2012 Games and the 500-acre
site in Stratford will provide a compact, secure and easily
accessible home for the Games, seven minutes from central London.
Nine new venues will be situated within easy walking distance of
each other, allowing competitors and spectators alike to experience the
unique atmosphere of an Olympic Games.
Work has already started in the area to remediate land and prepare
sites in readiness for the event. One of the many works that
Lloyds Environmental were recently contracted to undertake in
the area was a de-silting jetting job in the flood relief channel
around Walthamstow and Leyton. The Environment Agency wanted
the channel walls and base cleansed prior to a check for any
defects in the channel structure itself.
The entire jet cleansing job ran over 7 kilometres of the canal
and our drivers had to take the unusual step of driving their
vehicles into the flood relief channel to get access to the walls.
Fortunately, the water levels were held at low levels whilst
work took place.
All of this work was done through the Detling (Kent) branch
of Lloyds Environmental.
